    Hi all,

I am trying to translate a few WW2 Polish Air Force trades in to the equivalent English RAF trades and have a few I cannot quite figure out, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Mechanik przyrz. prec. - is this some sort of intrument or avionics technician or is it maybe a secretive reference to radar?

Instr. Wych. Fizyczn. - I figure this is a PTI but what does the Wych. abbreviation mean in Polish?

Tapicer balonowy - what to do with a balloon?

    Thanks,

    Ted

Mechanik Przyrzadow Precyzyjnych : Sensitive Instrument Mechanic.

Instruktor Wychowania Fizycznego : PT (Physical Training) Instructor

    Tapicer Balonowy : Baloon upholsterer.
    NIE ZAPOMNIJMY O KRESACH.

Thanks, I understood "upholsterer" but what can it mean with a balloon? The RAF trade seems to be only 'balloon operator'.

Sensitive Instrument Mechanic - the RAF had a trade 'Instrument repairer' which I guess is the nearest.

    Regards,

    Ted

In one of official PAF Inspectorate orders there was a short polish-english dictionary regarding the names of RAF trades.
According to this document wewe may learn that:
    - majster precyzyjny = Instrument Maker
    - mechanik precyzyjny = Instrument Repairer
    - instruktor wychowania fizycznego = Physical Training Instructor
    - tapicer = Fabric Worker (in this case tapicer balonowy may mean Baloon Fabric Worker)

    Regards,
    Greg

Tapicer would be better as upholsterer.
Majster = lead hand or independent craftsman. But in this context more likely lead hand, a man with experience.
