In 1940, most cadets were moved from Oflags to Stalags, which also happened at Oflag VII A. Basically, they lost their "officer" status.
After liberation, many Polish officers and enlisted men joined Polish II Corps, the so called "Anders Army", got British style uniforms and spent some time in Italy. Others joined
the US guard batallion, hence American uniforms. Disaster struck after it was decided that the government-in-exile in London was no longer recognized thanks to agreements between
Stalin, Churchill and Truman. When the exile forces were consequently disbanded, several tens of thousands Polish went to England and, from there, spread all over the world.
