That is possibly a Zugangsmarke or Eintrittsmarke that was made especially for Polish workers at "Wepoba".
Here You have an example of such a Zugangsmarke for Polish forced laborers (mostly POW's) from the ironworks in Malapane.

A friend of mine had the same badge with the "R" for Russian workers.

Good point... thank you. I posted an example of this type of numbered badge earlier in the thread, with letter "S" for factory mark which was wrapped with a <P> patch... no idea which factory though. I guessed "S" for Siemens?

Another forced worker identification badge unnumbered made of plastic with metal "G" symbol from Gustloff-Werk in Suhl.



This red one is for a Russian worker. I have been looking for a Polish yellow colour version for a long time.

Gustloff-Werk used a colour coding system of badges depending on its workers' nationality:

Poland - Yellow
Russians - Red
Italians - Blue
French - Green
Dutch - Brown
Belgian - Black
Czechs - White

The Zugangsmarke is a acces mark and the Kennmarke is a identification mark.

This tunic was offered to me by a forum member who was very insulting when I said his original offer price was too expensive for my collection. He will know what I am talking about.

I also made the same observation as you have re the badge on the "wrong" breast pocket. Not unheard of but against regulations and would likely have been a punishable offence , so I mentioned this as a concern to the seller.

For what it’s worth, here’s how one of the P’s stacks up against a genuine one. I can be certain that it’s genuine as it was one issued to my father that he had kept as a souvenir of those harrowing years. The one Kindzjal’s picture is not an image photographed straight on, and also slightly out of focus.

Hi kindzjal, the colour rendition is not something I would judge the patch by. They way an object appears (especially with digital photography) is affected by the light it is illuminated by - natural or artificial. And if the latter then incandescent, fluorescent, flash, etc. And of course, ink batch at the time it was printed may have also had variations.

To my eyes the patch seems to stack up well. The fabric appears very similar, as does the quality of the ink transfer. Take note of the similarities in the bottom right hand inside border where the yelow meets the purple.

Storage conditions will also affect ink colour shift/fading and or fabric discolouration so some colour differences can be expected.
