An interesting Eagle to be IDed- very characteristic features (avers specificaly)?
Perhaps a 2nd specimen can be found.
I would think – France /UK made - early one- based on French Aloviane39 version
Hi im looking any information about this eagle, workshop made?
Fellows,
An another small step in undersigning Polish WW2 Eagles.
Perhaps, supe very relevant, as i thought that all Gaunt's variants have already been identified! Surprise -Surprise -looks like not!
Please see the attached picture - side by side comparison - "Classic" Variant of Eagle by Gaunt (green background) v the "New/Previously unknown Variant" (presumably also by Gaunt?). Distinctions well visible and very interesting!
As far as i understand there are -in terms of fixing - 2 version of this "Unknown Eagle"- vertical blades and omegas.
From my observations, i conclude that this Variant - is super rare! (i would say 1-30/40)
Any of You more information and /or research materials?
J R Gaunt & Son established in Birmingham in 1884 by James Richard Gaunt and son Charles Frederick Gaunt (both previously employed by Firmin & Sons); specialised in manufacturing military and uniform buttons; 1899 incorporated as limited company; opened London offices in 1905; after first world war bought up an number of button and insignia makers, including Jennens & Co Ltd of London in 1925; became part of Firmin group in 1991.
In regards to posts 1983, 1989 and 1991 from Krakow1 and A J Zawadzki convinced that the tank beret bullion patch sold on ebay by me was a fake
The eagle in question was sent to Tomasz Zawistowski, who after reviewing it in hand said:
" I got the eagle and it is ok in my opinion. I understand some doubts about it's color but we never know conditions the object was aged. I think this one is doubtless."
Krakow1, who might doubt this but I understand knows Tomasz, may confirm this directly with him. Appologies from both of you accusing me of selling fakes might be in order.
One never ceases to learn!
dorava, Please show me where I made any accusations of a deliberate premeditated sale of a fake and an apology will be forthcoming. I maintain that this is a falsely aged post war reproduction (as clearly shown in post 1983 and 1989) and until I see a period photo of this one in use my opinion will remain unchanged. There are others beside Krakow1 and myself who also hold this opinion. As to why Mr. Zawistowski had a sudden change of mind on this eagle after your contact I cannot say.
Regards,
Tony
