Hi Tony, Thanks for your thoughtful reply,I appreciate it.I know very little, other than family oral history. There are no other documents regarding his military service,just a few more photos which I will post soon.
So few of them risked going home. Its particularly sad for the ones who fought for the Allies. My father was on the losing side so its understandable that he could not.He was exactly the same age as your father,born 1922,moved to England 1947 from Germany. He was offered Canada but would have had to wait too long for transfer. If he had been more patient I could have been your neighbour, HaHa. When the Communists discovered he was missing his family, Parents, 3 brothers & 1 sister were arrested(1 brother shot dead trying to escape).They were sent to Siberia for 10 years.The last time he saw them was in 1941. What wonderful Dads we had that they could go thru all they did and still build a life in foreign lands. best wishes ,Alex
