Just acquired an interesting PoW made eagle fashioned from a broken-off aluminium spoon head. Has a Cross and IIC scribed into the eagle contours. Two holes have been pierced through the eagle which I assume meant the owner wore it as a badge sewn on to some clothing item? I have seen this eagle and cross design on another PoW made emblem but I can't remember where? I have assumed is from Stalag IIC in Greifswald, Germany rather than Oflag II C Woldenberg as the eagle came with a dog-tag for Stalag IA.

    Anyone collecting PoW 'art'?

Never seen one before, but I rather like it.

I did find the reference I was thinking about:
"Orzeł - Symbol Przynależności," by Lech Bujanowicz; page 79

Another aluminium spoon head with a Polish Eagle engraved onto the rounded side of the spoon, again produced by a PoW. Why the Holy Cross should be a feature in the design of both PoW engraved emblems I do not know... someone else on the forum may provide the answer?

    Hello,

Yes I am collecting POW (trench) art and have seen that kind of eagles before.
    It's a nice item.
    Congrats.

    Hi kindzjal,

Thank you, PoW art is new to me. I am not really collecting PoW artifacts and this was a first purchase of this type. I was intrigued by the clever choice and use of the spoon head. I am more intrigued by the subject now

Would very much like to see some of your collection in the thread.

Any ideas on why the Holy Cross should feature with the Eagle and not just an Eagle by itself?

I found another example of PoW made Polish Eagle with Cross design in "Orzeł - Symbol Przynależności," by Lech Bujanowicz

    Hi,

I am at the moment not at home so I can't show some of my items.
The Holy Cross might be there because the aegle could belong to
the Holy Cross Mountains Brigade soldiers.

    Bestreg.
