    Gary, fascinating item. Sorry, no idea as to when and by whom such a piece would have been used. Are there any maker’s marks anywhere?

    Nope "not a sausage" !!! .... no marks anywhere !

    The wood in fact extends to both ends, and is used as the securing points for the ball ends.
    The brass twists are hollow, and slide over the wooden frame.

    OK, so a non-marked kielbasa – just like the ones my uncle used to make! In all seriousness though, I’ll keep my eyes peeled for anything to help ID this piece.
