What is the story behind this book?

This booklet was published in Great Britain on behalf of the Polish government-in-exile publications and propaganda dept. and is a translation of Polish jokes that were circulating at the time in the Homeland about the German occupation and war situation in Poland. Intended audience were the Brits who were considered to share a similar sardonic sense of humour as the Poles about the war.

The publications and propaganda dept. produced dozens and dozens of these types of booklets on a wide variety of subjects covering things like Polish agrarian reform policy statements, the Polish contribution to the Allied air, land and sea war of course, the situation of the Jews, the Jewish Warsaw Uprising, the Warsaw Rising, the home army, black humour pamphlets such as the example on this thread, as well as Yalta, the Moscow trial of the 16, the fate of Polish libraries, and the fate of Polish gold reserves smuggled out of Poland etc ... you name it the publications and propaganda dept. published it.

A few more of the various English language publications published by the London Polish government-in-exile propaganda/publishing department. And a couple of counter-propaganda pamphlets produced by the British "Left-wing Socialists" in Labour party/movement (sponsored by the USSR) which heavily influenced British policy towards Poland both during WWII and the early post-war when the Labour party came to power.
