Is it legal to find world war 2 relics in the Europe theater?

I was planing a trip to Europe and was wondering where to start looking for world war 2 relics. Is it legal to find and bring back to the US. Another question was if you have any good ideas on were to start looking besides the D-day beach and Bastonge?

Many pieces of good advice are available but the bottom line is legally Europe is not a fee for all as far as MD / Digging goes so you need to know the laws and rules,
