Dunno about such things... I DO know that this specimen came from David North's Collection... That is good enough for me... G

With all due respect, the author of post number number 2 does not have a clue what they are talking about. Not a clue and the response is amateur and more than likely, simply a knee jerk reaction just to make their presence known.

This early buckle like so many others is the end product of a cottage industry assembly. An Imperial era or early Weimar era buckle that has been stripped of an original roundel, to be then replaced with a more saleable "modern" roundel. In this case FAD and hence, the shadow of the originally set roundel.

For anyone who collects and has any knowledge of SA buckles, this is a common observation and manifestation on the very early examples.

As for the colour of solder points, over the years I have collected two piece buckles from the mid 1920's with the observation of solder points varying in colour from mirror silver to jet black. I really cannot say anymore and especially towards a buckle that has been period resoldered.

An original FAD buckle in my opinion and with this based on my many years of collecting with a special focus and specialisation on the early, unregulated and unpredictible mid to late 1920's period.

    Regards and best wishes,

    David

I appreciate David North's history, reputation, collection, sales history with many members and great experience. I agree buckle is okay Gwar. I don't agree that Markus / Yellow12's response was clueless, amateur and knee jerk. He has also a great collection, sufficient knowledge and contributes much to the forum as well as Gwar, Ben, Kirby and others. We all are entitled to opinions and in my 32 years of collecting have been mistaken so I am not being critical of your response. "Nemo Resideo" Semper Fi
