German helmet from Stalingrad

Article about: I've gotta try to get some of that stuff. It's amazing how it doesn't destroy the paint or decals.

Great helmets! Maybe this is one of your guys?

An Oberleutnant as opposed to Leutnant but it's still a possibility. There's only 6 Von Windheim and only 2 v. Windheim, as in the helmet you posted, (If there's any real relevant difference and not just an abbreviation) registered by the Volksbund as fallen or missing and Alf v. Windheim is the only one to match with date and proximity (although I couldn't seem to locate Kissljakow via google maps...). Either something like that or he was lucky enough to survive

    Nachname: v. Windheim

    Vorname: Alf

    Dienstgrad: Oberleutnant

    Geburtsdatum: 17.07.1906

    Geburtsort: Kiel

    Todes-/Vermisstendatum: 16.08.1942

    Todes-/Vermisstenort: Kissljakow

This helmet was found in the bunker where dug up remains of 25 German soldiers. Few helmet was separate from the corpses of German soldiers...
This bunker was in the village Novoalekseevka it inside Kessel, here Wikimapia - Let's describe the whole world!

Kissljakow village was near river Don. It's an old Cossack settlement, now it does not exist

Aaaah... then I guess this might be another v. Windheim that is yet to be registered by the Volksbund. Were the remains identified through dogtags or other such pointers?

Also, interesting info on the settlement of Kissljakow... it's eerie how settlements and villages just disappear over such a relatively short time.

Didn't see this the first time around on the Grabersuche:

Alf v. Windheim is believed to have been transferred as an unknown soldier at the war cemetery Rossoshka.

Grave Location: probably among the unknowns

So perhaps this is the man after all, only with his actual remains only "recently" recovered. I'm guessing the info on the actual place he went missing/was killed per the Volksbund might be a bit iffy.
Either way it seems like v. Windheim is a relatively uncommon name so I guess there's a chance.

alas, by 25 soldiers were only 3 dog tags... And do not forget that the helmet could be thrown in the bunker like garbage

    this one from there

That's too bad and you're surely right... the helmet doesn't have to have anything to do with the remains..

This helmet I have already published in another thread...

But this helmet is also from the standpoint of 94 Infantry Division ...
I like it very much. Unusual second paint color and red spot

Another great helmet --- love the color and the red dot! Relics with either camo or individual markings such as this are the most interesting to me, although I love them all.
