OK, So I have taken all the newer/re-enactor paint off by wiping it down and have gotten down to this:
I can see some places with grey metal, on top of that there is a dark, charcoal grey, almost black layer. There seems to be a layer of grey,(primer?), here and there, but clearly a full layer of this yellow. On top of all that is this layer of O.D. Green. I can see light pitting all over and the green/yellow is down inside the pits so this was not a very smooth/even coat to look at. You can also see some deep scratches in the yellow that were filled in w/the green.
So what have I got here? Is this "A" a German helmet that was sand blasted down to the metal and then repainted multiple times?
Or "B" a post war used German helmet were this O.D. green color was the reissue color?
I also rubbed out the area of the rear inside flap. There is some pitting in the numbers, but it looks to me to be "66" over "3361", does that sound correct?
many Thanks for all the help here, Paul.

It seems an advertisement has eaten some of my text...... What I said was: On the right side in the area around the vent hole, there is some heavier pitting,(maybe the size of BB's), inside and out. As if this helmet was in water on its right side. On the front, left side, and back the pitting is much lighter. On the right front area I can see bright.....
