Sorry to say, but this is a repainted relic.
A helmet this degraded and pitted would never have been in active service. It would never have been repainted with all this pitting. Pitting at this level only happens after decades of exposure to the elements or being buried under ground.
So it is clear that the paint was added after it was ground dug

If it was a real helmet, the pitting would have no paint, but in all these small holes the rust left there is paint, so definitly a ruined relic helmet.
The shell itself and the inside look real to me.
I have to agree with others - it is immediately obvious this is a repainted relic.
One to avoid.

A shame, as it would have been a half-decent relic lid otherwise, if someone hadn't decided to tart it up.
