M40 Relic with strange wire

Article about: This helmet was in BAD shape there was big clumps of rust that would fall off it and deep pitting and a hole in the top, there was no paint and no decals on it so I just restored it.

Here is a M40 relic with a odd wire on it, it has a plastic coating covering wires underneath so im guessing it was some kind of electrical wire?. Sorry for the bad pictures but if you look at the split pin the wire is embedded in the rust and in a few other places aswell so its a original wire. What do you guys think?

Hello, i think that the wire must have been added fairly recently.I am not saying that there was no such thing as "electrical wire" during the war,but it would surely not have been used on a helmet for attaching cammo?VERY VERY STRANGE!

The wire was wrapped around the liner band and it was embedded into the rust and i had to pry the wire out of the helmet

As i'm sure you already know better close up pictures are required as the wire looks like it was added about an hour ago !!

I personally prefered the unrestored version,it had a certain quality about it,if only a plug had been added as well then you would have had the beginnings of a nice food mixer! As it is it's just a missed opportunity to become an independant wholesale electrical retailer!!

If it is the one I am thinking of, it does look legit with better pics. I really must say though, that the restoration was IMO a bad idea since the wire was attached.

The helmet had merit as an original unique relic, now it's completely ruined IMO

Here is a thread on the same lid, I think.

I've no problem with restoration jobs like this, but do it on crappy rusted out hulks with nothing going for them. Not a lid with original wire still in place, or half decent decals / paint.....
