M42 before and after
Here's a picture of an M42 i got a while ago.
Left is how i got it and right how it turned out after short cleaning.

the cleaning process really did bring out some hidden paintwork ,can i ask what methods you used and was there any detailing exposed on the inside ,thanks james

Looks like a good amount of paint was left under the dirt. Good job!
I use oxalic acid for lightly rusted items and/or items with paint and/or decals.

It's safe to use on items with paint and decals but removes the (light) rust.
Can't use it on heavily rusted items since, well, it's too far gone.
No details found on the inside though.
People tend to use electrolysis too fast which destroys the paint.
It's actually light rust
Can i ask you how much oxalic acid did you used, and how long the helmet was in there? (just for use the same method with some of my relics)
Please see the restoration forum as we have much info there about this type of thing. Beware this stuff is very dangerous to health.
