I definitely will, I don't think I can use oxalic acid because if the liner.

Hey Goon, for me the condition is best left as is. Trouble is, oxygen will continue to flake it away and the residue building up on the shelf it sits on will bug you eventually.
BUT, if you try to preserve it with wax or spray fixative, you WILL lose some of that 'au naturale' patina .......decisions, decisions.....sigh.

    Cheers, Dan

Boy what a relic helmet you could do some cleaning to it if you like relics this is a good one for you timothy

I wouldn't bother with oxalic on this, not because of the liner remnants but because the oxalic won't do much for such heavy rust. Electrolysis would be a better option but you might find holes start appearing in the shell as the base metal is no doubt very thin.

    That's a great looking relic!.....
It's a wasted trip baby. Nobody said nothing about locking horns with no Tigers.

I reckon there's some human remains in the lid, bone
in above the remains of the liner

Hi Dan, yes your right it does look crispy and flaky and I will see once it gets here how bad it is and I think the best option is to spray some matte lacquer on it to at least keep it in one piece. And AMTG there could be, there's a shrapnel hole going through both sides of it.
