Digging details/photos, solid shell and a seemingly intact liner---- good stuff, congrats!

Phil , i think you will have to weigh this one carefully, from what i can see , there is a certain amount of alloy rot on the inner band so the whole thing will be fragile , trying to re attach inside the shell could prove difficult so the simplest method should be adopted, i agree with the statement concerning the outer band, this may well be seized in position and any attempt to remove it would cause untold and irrepairable damage, i think a very gentle clean is all that is needed for this one

Thanks Guys for all your comments G'day Dave I agree with what you say,and as i say i wont know till i get it, and then decide which road to take, it might be best left just the way it is?

    Cheers Mate,
    Phill.

    Phil,

IMO it is best to leave as is. If the pic's provided of the dig are accurate then why alter a good find?

If you want to restore one then find one that does not have the background find behind it. There are plenty out there that you can restore without IMO again ruin one from a known battle site.

I would display the helmet with a pic from the dig site but not in restored condition.

    My best, Tyrone

Nice helmet mate. Did you only pay 64 $ for that lid? Those guys are cheap... I guess the Euro crisis must have hit Estonia.

    Regards, Lars
It saddens me that the guys over there are charging $50 US for shipping on a $30 lid and I just got a lid in 4 days for $26 from the UK. The $50 shipping lids take almost 1 month. Too many sellers in Latvia and surrounding areas have jacked their shipping triple in the past year. WHY? Am I missing something?
