Nice battle damaged M40

Article about: I do not remember, have I posted it before or not. Anyway, this is one of the first helmets I cleaned with oxalic accid. I got it from Germany (and yes, from German eBay actually!) in rusty

    Are those combat helmets ?? Look at the liners?, the shells seem to have rims on them??

    That photo is post WWI, and all of the helmets look like they are M18's. With respect to the relic that started this thread, I do not think the damage is from a pick ax, it looks to me as if it is shrapnel and concussion damage. Just my 2 cents for what they are worth. Jim G.
