It's not an M40...it's an M42...

Indeed a M42 - but I suspect the rust aging and paint are fairly
recent additions to jack the price up.........

M42 and I agree with Steve, just look at the inside compared to the outside. Its almost looks like 2 different helmets. Leave it where it is

Looks like a modern re spray with the gentle application of wet and dry sand paper to scuff it up a bit!
