    Default Relic M42 Single Decal SS Helmet !

    As i'm sorting out my study i'm currently packing away my helmets for a while including this one a Relic M42 Single Decal SS Helmet !

    This was recovered from the positions of SS Panzer Gren Regt 24 " Danmark " on the Sinimae in Estonia !

    It has had a Helmer cover which has rotted away although a small section does remain

    The gates of hell were opened and we accepted the invitation to enter" 26/880 Lance Sgt, Edward Dyke. 26th Bn Northumberland Fusiliers , ( 3rd Tyneside Irish )

    1st July 1916

    Courage the greater as our strength faileth.
    Here lies our leader ,in the dust of his greatness.
    Who leaves him now , be damned forever.
    We who are old now shall not leave this Battle,
    But lie at his feet , in the dust with our leader

    That's a very nice helmet Paul, lovely piece to have in your collection, and even better you have the history of the SS Regt. it was used by! Thank you for sharing...

    Very nice, do you ever think of keeping the history of you're helmets? So maybe when you're done with the helmets the history stays with it. Just a thought. You're knowledge of the helmets is important. That should be saved also.

    Looks like it's already had an oxalic bath at some time. If it were mine, I'd be coating in renaissance wax to darken the paint up a little.

    Having said that, I love the helmet! The cover clip looks great and adds immensely to the collectability of this piece.

    Hi Ian i keep a full history of al the History of Helmets such as this ,including details of the former owner if we can find them out , this one we know exactly who it belonged to . The history also has the photos of when and excatly where it was found and how it is connected , combat wise to that location and excavation ,it was part of a full Archeaological excavation . We are fortunate to have contact with some wonderful Danish and Norwegian historians who provide much information on individulas from Danmark and Norge Regiments.
