What an interesting forum this is .....

I have a question for you restorers. I have a as you can see a rather nice looking 499/41 visor badge but unfortunately some has stuck using araldite glue or something similar.
My question is …. How can I remove the glue and pins cleanly to leave the round fittings but pin less….. ?

I have had this little bugger for what seems all of my life..... I don’t know if you know Warnham in Sussex from the yester year..... ? Well that’s where it came from. Its cost me a grand total of a tenner too, even then I knew I had scored even though it had these awful pins on.

Normaly at 60 to 70 degrees celsius it will come off.
Try a paint stripper, but very gently, keep a distance between the item and the paint stripper.

It might be hard to come by, as it is no commoun product.

If it is araldite then they say don't use it to stick the handles of mugs which may contain hot drinks. Presumably boiling water should soften the adhesive, without damaging the skull, lift off what you can with the wires and use a soft plastic scraper for the rest, re-immersing as required.

OKW ..... You have obviously read the small print. It seems as if it is araldite, but what concerns me is I very much like the colour it has taken on over the years and making any kind of attempt to removing the pins & glue might damage that. But I do hate those pins, as they remind me of paper clips.
