I would leave it as is, unless it is about to fall apart, but do not place it
on a dummy head for display, as this puts stress on the liner.

You can buy or make wooden stands which will not
    touch the liner at all.
    Regards,

    Steve.

Post a picture of the liner, maybe this will help us judge better.

the liner is in great shape. I was wondering if you had to maintain it like leather.

If the liner is in good condition, ie not drying out then a treatment of either petroleum jelly or lanoline applied carefully and sparingly will keep the leather hydrated, however if the liner was falling apart there is very little that you can do except the above and hope for the best but in some cases it will be best to leave well alone or the mere process of wiping the leather can tear an already fragile liner, this process should be attempted once you feel confident of handling aged leather

Leave it as found. Applying any kind of treatment will devalue it.

    Cheers, Ade.
