Re: Heer M42 helmet project
Well you know that i like the helmet but to be totally honest i hate that chin strap, it resembles the Norwegian chin straps and looks odd and if you intend to put decals on, it will look even more so, i know it might have been cheaper but you took the time to reproduce a good looking helmet with a lot of work involved, i think this spoils the look but its your helmet

I here ya Dave and thanks for your input, now you've been involved with this lid from the start and we can't have you being disapointed so the strap will come off and i'll find another, I wasn't that keen on it myself but these things can be hard to judge from one pic on an auction site, all the best Mate.

Re: Heer M42 helmet project
I wasn't going to say anything but i'm glad the chinstrap is going. The colour looked more luftwaffe being so brown. Maybe hit it with some shoe-dye or boot polish in black?

Re: Heer M42 helmet project
I didn't want to spoil the fun either Phill, but do put another on there
or dye the brown one with a really dark brown boot polish as
Glenn says. After all your hard work, attention to detail in
the finishing touches will really set it off !
Makes me want to do a resto/refurb on one now.........
