    Default learning to carve wood

    Hello Gent's
i just wanted to share my first attempt at wood carving. last summer i found a few wood carving tools at a yard sale, and thought it might be fun to try. i have carved stone before, but never wood. i have this fantasy/ medieval knife i made 26 years ago. the handle is hickory from an axe handle. hard wood lol. and really dry.
so i decided on a design and got started. i expected it to take longer. but this is the result of 2 days work.

Very creative Andrew - and talented too !

Great design idea for the crossguard - reminds me of a ribbon
or banner. Will you now oil, stain or Varithane the grip.........?
    Regards,

    Steve.

    thanks Gents,
i appreciate the nice responce. Steve, i had already put Tru Oil on the wood, but i decided it looked to plain. i wanted the oak leaf to stand out more. so here is how it looks now.
