Luftwaffe Helmet restoration !

Article about: As long as you are mentally prepared should you cause damage during the restoration process. If you are, than go for it. Still a good looking helmet as is. Good luck!

    Default Luftwaffe Helmet restoration !

    I bought this Luftwaffe Helmet to for restoration reasons, probebly going to be hard, and I might ruin it.. so if you guys have any ideas, or tips I would love to hear them!

    Thank you guys, and enjoy these pictures of a German Luftwaffe helmet with a lot of paint on..

    I'm sure with a magnifying headseat and a scalpel you COULD flake off all the bits of yellow enamel - thats the forensic way to do it - but you may probably go mad in the process as it's HUGE amount of work.

    Thats how I "deflaked" a Luftschutz hand siren and it ONLY took about a week .... :-)

    Well, it's going to have yellow dots on the value to me and the market ain't hight, I'll rather try to remove a few stains.. maybe not from the decal though.

    I remember this one, I thought it might be bad. Shame on me.

    It could turn out nice. Q tips, acetone, lots of time good luck and keep us posted.

    That's a good idea, less risky than chemicals.

    I agree with the 'leave it as it is' comments usually guys, but there is not much to lose here since it's already been 95% stripped of the yellow. Just my opinion.

    I'd be tempted to leave it, there's enough of the original paint, and the bits of yellow also show its history post war.

    You got a nice helmet there with a bit of history to it!!

    Thank you guys, yeah I think I'll take the scapel and try it out, anything I can do with the inside? The same there? =P
