M40 helmet ??????

hiya guys i took a bit of a gamble on this item when it came up for £25 buy it now on eBay anyway i knew the paint & decals were wrong/fake but not the condition & as you can see from the pic's it looks to have been a relic condition with attempted restore. so my question is to strip or not to strip if i do strip it how easy or not will it be to get shot of the filler & get this back to relic condition

what do you guys think any helpful advise will be good

yeah well i was thinking more the long the lines of paint stripper im not to keen on messing with any acids i was hoping for a little more input from other people but ah well there you go

anyway enough about him where do i buy this acid & don't say the local dealer can i get it in any DIY place or do i have to order it ??????????
