    Default M40 Restoration

    Hello,
I thought I would try another one, this time a Quist M40.
So far I have stripped it of yet again thick black Czech paint, primed it and given it one coat of Luftwaffe blue.
I am trying a different paint manufacturer this time.
The paint is still drying in these couple of pictures, and I forgot to take any pictures of the earlier stages!M40 RestorationM40 Restoration
It looks more grey than grey blue at the minute!

its quite hard to tell the differance between the two models ,the vent from the pics looks separate from the shell and as you have it in hand does it look separate ?the inside of the vent should have a flared edge holding it in place if it is pressed and as one with the shell you were right the first time jonathan

    Hello James,
I am no expert, but I will say I believe it to be an M40.
It looks pressed to me and is the same as another Q64 M40 I have, but I suppose that could be an M35 as well which doesn't help!
I did a search on the lot number (dn211) and found two Q64s.
One of which was posted here on Warrelics back in 2010 and oddly it was a Luftwaffe helmet which is what this will be once I have finished. Sadly it didn't say if it was an M35 or M40 but as it was an SD more chances it would be an M40?
    Jonathan.
