hey guys i have a nickle plated m42 helmet that i got real cheap. I was just wondering if i can get the plating off. Some people told me to sand blast it while others told me to use nitric acid. I was just wondering if anyone one had some advice

I think you should just leave it and get one that hasn't been chromed? They are not that expensive.

well i wanna use this one as a reenacting piece i only have originals at the moment. And i heard stripping the plating isnt that hard you just need to find the right way to do this. I got this shell dirt dirt cheap. and regular shells are about 130-150$ so id rather try to get the plating off first instead of shelling out the money for a reenacting shell.
How much did you get it for? If you got it dirt cheap you sohuld try whatever you think. I think sanding it would work. There are really good fake helmets though on Ebay. They are around 40 dollars. If you wear them down they will look old.

i think sand blasting it should work. i had a friend who did the exact same thing to his chromed helmet. dont overdo it though.
Is this forum for discussing REAL German helmets or are those days gone?
