    I did alot of experiments with different acids and rust removers that you can buy over the counter.

    At last I found what I was looking for....a gentle rust remover that is not dangerous to yourself, any paintwork and prevent rust to build up again (contains lead)....

    do you reckon it would work on lids as well without damaging the paint ?????

    Well, I've used it on one of my gasmask tins and worked excellent! I've been using this stuff for some time now and never saw it attacking paint. I even put some on the filter of the gasmask and it removed the rust that was under the WaA stamp without removing the stamp...

    I'll post a pic......

    So I believe it will work on the helmet. I don't know about the decal thou, if you have a old lid you can try the decal.

    Check this..............:

    On the mortar I only put the rust remover partially so that you can see the difference clearer. (the text is not smudged, the camera is out of focus...) If you look at the gasmask tin, you can see that the colour is even better after removing all the rust

    Ok, 15 Euro for 200 ml. You go a long way with 200 ml.

    Hi NickD,
    Shipping to the UK and the rest of Europe will be 8 euro Airmail and 5 euro land mail. The parcel will weigh 300 g.

    So total is 23 euro for air...
