Rusty WW1 pick head
Hi guys
I'm a newbie to your forum and to all this technology though I've been a militaria collector for more years than I'm comfortable with , and am now getting into relics as well as the costlier stuff. My thing is mostly Allied WW1 though having said that, I've got gear from the Napoleonic era right up to the Falklands. What I'm asking here is , has anyone got any suggestions about the right way to go about cleaning the rust off a WW1 era British pick head, found very recently during a tour of the Paschendaele area ? I'm loathe to just go at it with hammer, chisel and wire brush, so would welcome any suggestions from you experienced relic gatherers out there. Its still a pretty solid piece of issue, and has the vestiges of the wooden haft embedded in it. Very poignant, iconic piece . Thanks

Hi Fouldsie
Welcome to the forum, I will need pictures of this helmet before I'll be able to help you. Condition of the helmet is everything...

Re: Rusty WW1 pick head
Hi Nick
I think you've misunderstood me - its a pick that I've found, i.e. a tool for digging ( trenches ) with, not a helmet. I'll try to get some photos up tomorrow, if I can persuade my wife to help me upload them ! Thanks for the reply.

Hi Fouldsie
My mistake must have read pickelhaube somewhere, nevermind...
I'll take a look at it when you uploaded the pic's.
