(Somewhat) Restoration of a German canteen
I recently bought this from Germany, when I got it, the leather was very dry and hard, but after a bit of "restoration", it looks and is much better. I think it was an attic find, but it was very cheap and my wallet agreed.
The product I used:
Moisturizing cream for skin and hands
Once that has been covered, I waited for it to dry in a bit before removing the straps.
Once they are removed, I smear more cream on the straps and wait for it to dry.
During this process, I find a name inside the cover:
How the cover looks like:
Is there supposed to be a cup on top? If so, I would like to get one, but hopefully they are not too expensive.
Looking for militaria from 38. Batterie, Heeres Küsten Artillerie Regiment 977, also from 31, 32 and 36. Batterie.

Nice....don't touch it anymore....looks great as is.... They had a small Bakelite cap in top, though some versions had a aluminium one....they are not that expensive and relatively easy to locate
