(Somewhat) Restoration of a German canteen
I recently bought this from Germany, when I got it, the leather was very dry and hard, but after a bit of "restoration", it looks and is much better. I think it was an attic find, but it was very cheap and my wallet agreed.
Before:
The product I used:
Moisturizing cream for skin and hands
Smeared in:
Once that has been covered, I waited for it to dry in a bit before removing the straps.
Once they are removed, I smear more cream on the straps and wait for it to dry.
During this process, I find a name inside the cover:

Is there supposed to be a cup on top? If so, I would like to get one, but hopefully they are not too expensive.

Nice....don't touch it anymore....looks great as is.... They had a small Bakelite cap in top, though some versions had a aluminium one....they are not that expensive and relatively easy to locate
