Red face WWII British Infantry Gas Mask. (Help please)

    Okay, here's my problem,
My grandpa served in WWII in the Infantry and was given a standard issue gas mask in 1942, I made sure it was right and checked all the markings from production. Now We have kept it in very good shape, sealed it and am considering having a filter specifically made eventually, but just now it is safe. But time got to work and has damaged the straps so badly that they are in urgent need of reparation.

This is where I need help, I went down to the surplus store and By Gods good grace they had a set of straps in a near mint condition from a heavily deteriorated and unsellable Gas mask. I bought them quickly and with haste headed to the internet to find how to thread my gas mask up.... and well I failed, I couldn't find a diagram at all, I dont know if anyone has a step by step guide or some sort of leaflet or something for this, if they have and could share I would be very happy as this is a priceless piece that is still complete and has very minor damage (Dent from a bullet on front.)

So if anyone can help, please do!

I can photograph one of mine if this would help?

I don't know of any kind of instructional leaflet about replacing these.

Don't mess around with the filter: these contain asbestos!

    Cheers, Ade.

My pleasure. The rubber mask itself is made by the well known tyre maker of the period, "Avon".

For more on respirators see my new thread in the Western Allies forum here:
