Mark's SA Buckle - Opinions Please
It was greatly appreciated that Mark (Mark Tuson) added a very interesting SA buckle to the data base - SA Buckles (Brass) Sun Wheel Swastika.
Here is the buckle for open discussion.
With all due respect to Mark, I think that it is a fake SA buckle.
Other opinions or views would be welcome.
Regards,
David

Hallo David
Is not easy to say without hold in my hands, the picturs can veil, conceral the real look of the brass.

Gerolf
Perhaps you are nervous about this buckle ?
Attached are images of what I know are fake SA's - all with the what I think are the same roundel.
Vielleicht sind Sie über diese KS nervös?
Beigefügt sind die Bilder von dem, was ich kenne, sind gefälschte SA - alle mit dem, was ich denke sind die gleichen abzeichen.
I think that Mark's buckle is fake.

David

David, SA has never been my field of collecting but with the images of the fakes you have shown I would say that the buckle is indeed a fake

Re: Mark's SA Buckle - Opinions Please
The prongs of Marks buckle look suspicious to me, but not the roundel...hmm hard to judge, if you don't have it in your own hands.
Could it be, that the prongs have been replaced ?

i agree that this is a fake SA buckle,,many problems

Re: Mark's SA Buckle - Opinions Please
I am also leaning towards reproduction. The prongs have that sheared cut by the looks of it and that brass gives off a weird "feel" when in hand. Almost like it's thinner or "cheaper". Now - that said - I obviously have not held this buckle. But I have held repro SA's that look like the box of this buckle.
Just my two cents....

Re: Mark's SA Buckle - Opinions Please
There is the very strong possibility that the roundel being discussed here (with both sun wheel and mobile swastikas) is a pure fantasy design and actually, a period one does not exist. I need to have another look through my SA's to confirm this, although I have done it before and could not find the exact same design. Jolly similar ones yes, however not one with EXACTLY THE SAME DETAIL.
Another possibility is that the fakers may have used a very rare design SA by Steinhauer & Lück, Lüdenscheid for their inspiration and I have attached some images.
My thoughts are if we see this roundel, then totally forget for the moment every other feature of the buckle. The presence of this roundel automatically stigmatises the buckle as fake.
I must emphasise that his is only a theory and I would be very interested to know if any member holds an original SA with this EXACT roundel.

David
