You are quite correct by your astute comments. This is and in my opinion, a very early "Kampfzeit" SA.
The roundel design is somewhat rare for an SA and yes, clearly heavily worn.
Here is another that I have and interestingly, essentially the same type of brass box with an "ear" design, slightly resonant as that known to be a signature by St. u L.
The reverse solder points are however not the most tidy that I have seen!
