    Hello Emmanuel

    An extremely interesting buckle.

In my opinion, this is a "fantasy" design roundel that has been very cleverly set on an original brass box. The quality of affixing workmanship is superb and the artificial ageing is really first class.

Having said that, a fantasy roundel that did not exist in my opinion pre 1945, being however expertly aged and then mounted on an original and period box. I also do not like the hand punched numbers on the lip of the buckle box, although I suppose that this is a quite academic feature.

    Regards,

    David

Does any forum member have thoughts on this buckle, as I think that it is perhaps a tad dangerous when an opinion may be formed from a single response.

My opinion is unchanged, however some further images may act as a prompt.

I think that the roundel is a post 1945 fantasy.

Attached are images of the buckle which regularly appear on certain auction sites, complete with (in my opinion), a fake brass boxes.

There are at least two common "identifying flaws" which I have highlighted. On the known fantasy items and the the buckle posted by Emmanuel, I think that they perhaps correlate and suggest as being from the same source - fake !

Any comments would be greatly welcome.

    Regards,

    David

SA buckles are not really my bag David, however just from looking at buckles from the rear I would have said it was original, from the front a different ball game!

    Hello

thank you David for answer and very good pics job..

The roundel is the same as the known fake buckle but the box is good ...

Fakers invent more and more, so we can't trust in only box patina

    best
