Thoughts on small SA/HJ?

Article about: Any thoughts on this small SA, not seen it in the flesh but told it's smaller than a standard box buckle. Presuming it's a 40mm. Were these HJ use?

Yes, these were used by the H.J. in the early period prior to the introduction of the H.J. buckle with the motto and the D.J. buckle.

    Hello Gentlemen ,

I think the roundel is not from this small buckle .

That's from a normaly size SA buckle and soldert new on the small case !!!!!!!

I've got a 40mm brown belt that I reckon is HJ, so that's why I'm keen. It's a cheap buckle to be honest, I'm sure I've seen period pics of full size rounded on smaller box?

Here's a thought, just been checking and as far as I can gather the early HJ's were 35mm and had straight ears. If this is a full size roundel, that puts the buckle at 40mm, and it's got curved ears. That's not an early HJ buckle, but a 40mm SA as mentioned in Angolia Pg. 172

Additionally, a rarely encountered 40x63mm size was also produced.
    Thoughts anyone?

This buckle arrived today and it is indeed a 40mm SA, really chuffed with it. The roundel looks to have been there a long time and have no reason to doubt it's a genuine 40mm SA. According to Angolia they are pretty rare, anyone else got one?

    I've posted a pic with a 45mm, 40mm and a 35mm...

    Lenny,

Glad the buckle arrived safe, i have no reason to believe that the roundel does not belong to the 40mm box, its been on there since day 1 imo.
