Blade / crossguard fitting

Article about: Good eyes Gerrit on the Gruppe mark "W" having 4 dashes separately applied. I have seen this also... which the dashes are perfectly applied..without any weak sided application. A d

    Default Blade / crossguard fitting

    Hi everyone,

I would like to have your thoughts to why the blade doesn't seem to fit the crossguard very well.

To me, it seems like the hole in the crossguard is too big for the blade.
It's not the first time I see it, but to me it doesn't look good.

I suppose that is a SS dagger?

Looks like a serialized SA, from what little I can see of it in the photo. As to why the gap, it may be that someone tarted up a standard SA by adding the serialized crossguard he'd gotten a hold of somewhere. Unfortunately, by doing this, he changed it from a good solid original SA into a Parts dagger.....a shame.

Apparently, I was wrong, dagger grip seems to be SA-one.
Number 6 on crossgurd is confused me.

I had this in my hands at the recent Max Show on that Friday..and it sat there all day including through dealer set up. It sat there for a reason. What attracted me was everything one would "Want" to see in an all in one package....including the group mark "W"..the price also was very attractive..yet no one bought it....or did they? Its a shame they destroyed a good dagger.
Obvious they wanted to change it into a benchmarked (6) and FHH marked (W) part.Rohm with the SA enlistment number (39771) very low ( first 100000... so well done on that one)
Well more expensive we cant make it, IT SEEMS
What stands out that doesnt fit in the picture:
Crossguard to bladr cap, on this series not done.
the W marking way to big for the guard, made of 4 separate dashes, angles of dashes are not exactly the same.
(Compare it with the standard height of a normal Gaumarking)

now there is also something that for sure is not a rule, ive seen some outstandings scabbrard on Rohm Sa's too.
but...lots of the Rohm eicks ive seen had a very thin lacquer finish, so lots of them suffer of a bit of corrosion on the scabbard, this one sure doesnt..

    I would avoid this one.

    Regards,
    Ger

Some Really Should email Wittmann and ask him about this piece. For $2700 dollars, I think I'd need abit better explanations of these problems than the ones he's given in his description of it....
