The famous photos of the ceremony of that day(May of 1938 when Hitler made a State visit to Italy) show that the dagger was an Italian MSVN dagger and likely had an Ivory grip. It also had a portapee on it that the other daggers did not. Hitler never wore it again after that day or any other dagger. The dagger in question, they believe, was deliberately destroyed by Julius Schaub at the Berghof in 1945 as the US troops were getting near.

The triangular insignia on Hitler's shoulder with the Fasces on it (Corporal of Honour Badge)was also part of the "trappings" of the ceremony day when Mussolini came to Germany the previous September in 1937.
