    ok gents,

I am wondering if there was a standard for the location of the rune on SA, SS or NSKK daggers. It seems there are a lot out there, that have the rune at slightly different distances from the bottom cross guard.
Is this a determining factor of a reproduction? or simply a variance in production locations?

Hereis an example of what I am talking about. 2 daggers I am looking at.

Simply a makers variation in this case.

But badly located eagles can be the sign of a fake.

If many daggers are placed side by side you will see some slight variation.

    Cheers, Ade.

Hi Dan , the wooden grip profiles varied between makers although at first glance they look the same , a closer look will show that some are slimmer than others , with more wood taken from the curves . If you look at the two examples you show ( at the triangular shaped sections on the crossguards ) there is a big difference in size , and this ultimately decides the positioning of the roundel and eagle .

    cheers Al
