In that case the blade will be undamaged under the small layer of cosmoline.
Easiest way to remove it: turn top nut and remove grip and crossguard.
Heat up your oven till 150 degrees celcius and put it in for 10 minutes.
All with be dripping off, now take oven gloces and some kitchen tissues and whipe it clean..
