Metal detecting in the desert??

Hi.
Does anyone go metal detecting in the desert rommels / montys old battle grounds.
Their must be a ton of stuff their in really good condition.
I guess shifting sands would cover things up pretty quick

I reckon the political situation in Libya and Egypt over the years has dampened efforts Peter.
But I do agree there must be gold in them thar dunes!

Post war Libyan economy, before the discovery of oil, was almost entirely driven by trading in scrap metal. The desert is still packed with so much live ordnance that many areas are still unsafe to travel across.

I agree there must still be large quantities of stuff in the desert, but I prefer my feet and legs where there are and not 200 feet away from me.

Metal detecting in deserts is a particularly profitable means of finding Meteorites...Literally, manna from Heaven...

Amazing to see all the shells just stacked up like that after all these years.
Their must be a ton of stuff covered in sand that will never be found.

About twenty years ago, I was talking to a person that was working with an oil company in Libya. He told me that they came across several german tanks in the desert.
