It’s a fake badge. Take a look at the first image posted of the reverse of the badge, note the extended profile of the number box. This is done because when a fake badge is cast using an original as...
No question here, it’s fake. On the limited photos that appear to have been cunningly taken using a potato to hide the many faults, one can still see on the reverse alone that the incorrect hinge,...
Where to start? This badge is not even close to being original. Eagle design, especially the head, wrong. Tank: Tracks, track pins, return rollers all weak and not the same as any original. Number...
It’s a minty Deumer type 1.20.3, no problems there. The condition of the galverzinkt finish is often excellent on this makers badges.
Regards, Ned.
It’s a genuine Schickle design PAB with a variant rectangular hinge, I think the IAB’s also use it. This type is the thin end quality wise, war restrictions decided that, but as the price goes it’s...
It’s an early solid zinc IAB by Gottlieb & Wagner with the recessed set up. As can be seen here, this was not particularly durable and was replaced with a waffle crimp set up later on.
Regards,...
It’s an original type V PAB by an unknown maker but colloquially known by collectors as the “Scooped Flatback”. Shame about the missing catch, but not uncommon on these late war badges.
Regards,...
1970’s Fake on the left, the O.P.’s badge on the right. Note the areas highlighted, especially the bayonet pommel with the “Sealions head”, a damning indictment.

Unfortunately the badge is a fake. Certain parts are reasonably new additions, others are older, like the eagle, but there are several anomalies that show it’s bad to the practiced eye. Amongst...

The Kiel/Laboe Memorial boat has an interesting history:

I like it.
Best wait for the IAB guys to comment before popping the champagne corks though! ;)

Thanks Jonno, but I'm far from certain and ryuuk's opinion is always one I look for and respect both here and on other forums. He has an incredible eye for the critical/smallest details that many...
Hi ryuuk,
I have taken that into consideration.:) I believe that the badge on the right of your montage COULD be the original Deschler IAB that was used as a master to form the fake casting mold,...
With these new pictures I have to say that it looks genuine to me as the overall appearance seems good. Better wait for other opinions, but I'm cautiously optimistic.

It could be cigarette tar perhaps? The badge is a Funcke & Brüningshaus Heer Flak, I can't see any major problems but these are rather rare so it's hard to make comparisons. I'm also a bit concerned...
I agree.cool militaria BOTH the photo's shown in the OP are actually taken from the Staegemeir catalogue and are NOT the new members own images. I have a feeling someone is playing silly buggers...
I wondef if comrade Eike knows it's been sold?
I wonder if comrade Eike has bought it?! :shok_yikes:
We live in exciting times....:D
No debacle. Just a case of me being recklessly blasé without taking the time to look more closely.:o:p
Looks like a good magnetic short 'M' to me. Have you already asked opinions elsewhere on this one as well?;)
My apologies to all, but I just can't resist leaving this here, and it is in context regarding "Sculls"........Sort of.

Having just looked at that, I agree probably a type 2 as there is a slight variance from type 1.cool militaria
Regards, Ned.
Looks O.K. to me, I see no obvious problems. As stated in the thread title, a type 1 U-boat.cool militaria

Are any of them inflatable perchance? Just asking for a friend you understand.
