My 2 cents worth is do not restore the Normandy helmet. Restore the one bought in Berlin because, as said earlier, there is no "historically" traceable info on it.

Thanks guys. Now my next question is: What is it worth? It belongs to a friend of mine and I would like to make him a offer for it.
I'm not sure if this is the correct spot to post this as I am not certain if this is a WW II German bayonet or not. At any rate, here it is and I hope you guys can shed some light as to who made it,...
I bought this helmet from a small country antique shop back in the 50's when I was a kid. The liner has rotted away over time so I installed a new repro item. Aside from that it is in the condition...

That's a very nice M40 you have there! I would like to snag one that is in that condition without paying out the kazoo for it. I have another helmet that I will post some pics of that I picked up at...
I have a plastic bag over it that is wide open on the bottom. So far I haven't seen any additional rust, etc. I don't think I'll overcoat it with anything UNLESS I find it to be deteriorating.
I wonder why that is Glenn. You'd think they would all rust at about the same rate depending on conditions of course.
My solution to the dust problem is placing a clear plastic bag over the helmet. Works for me.
Thanks for the info. It will go nicely in my collection!
I just received this nice dress/ceremonial bayonet and I wonder what you guys think of it. It's in very good condition. I couldn't find any markings at all on it. The metal strip in one of the photos...
Just to be clear, my ESB38 is what exactly? Eduard Sommerfeld, Berlin made in 1938 I understand but is it a regular army canteen or what? Thanks!
Thanks! Yes it does help shed some light on the subject. Much appreciated.
I just acquired this canteen and am curious as to what you guys think about it. Also, what does the ESB38 mean? Year of manufacture? It came without a cup.

That is good to know. Thanks!
Thanks Steve.
I picked this one up on ebay a while back for a pretty fair price from a guy in Latvia (if I remember correctly). Supposedly a ground dug relic from the Kurland area. It looks okay to my untrained...
I really appreciate your input on this. Thank you!
Just to avoid confusion, the bayonet with the scabbard and frog I found on ebay. The one without those was the one my father in law gave me.

Picked it up on ebay for $77.00. Not a bad deal I'd say.

Thanks! I will check it out.
Thanks. I'm glad to have been able to acquire it.
Thanks for the info. I am unable to find any other stamps so I guess they have worn away. Do you have any idea what it might be worth? It was given to me by my father in law about 20 years ago. He...
Here are two more pics of the baynet that has no scabbard. I found the 38 stamped on the spine and I also found something else which I can't make out. Any ideas?...
Thanks. I'll take some more closeups of the frog plus some photos of another 98K bayonet I have that has no scabbard or frog.
Okay, here are the photos as promised.
The frog has the number...
Thanks for the info. It's always good to have all the information possible on any relic.
