Dimples don't mean that it was a D-loop helmet. Dimples can be found on fixed loop helmets manufactured during that same time period. It just so happens that it was during the short time period that...
Agreed, looks to be a UN helmet. There were many nations that used U.S. manufactured M-1's, this helmet could have come from anyone of a dozen nations involved in UN peacekeeping
It was referred to as mossy camo by the military, it wasn't a multi-color camo. The heavy texture was meant to break up the shape of the M-1, thus it was camo.
Let me clear up a few misconceptions stated here about this helmet. First: A German copy... what??? No it is a mid to late 1944 U.S. manufactured front seamed McCord. The refinish on it was used...
White was used in so many area's of the military: The VFW, American Legion, ROTC, National Guard Units, Army Reserve as well as regular Army used these white liners for parade duty from the late...
Italian War Front(Giorgio Spadaro) sells a lot of nice stuff but, also feigns ignorance and carefully words faked helmets to give the feeling to a potential buyer that they are getting a possible...
Actually, it looks like a Korean War era marked medic and pretty legit at that.
Actually, there is really nothing about this helmet that looks right. This helmet would be totally out of character for something used in Vietnam.
Who was the author of the book? I'm in contact with most all of the authors on helmet reference books.
While the helmet in question here is a fake, I'd like to address the dimple issue. While many of the D-loop helmets did indeed have the dimple, not all of them exhibit this so, this can't be the...
I don't know Mike, I kinda like Hooviedud.
So true, once you bag your quarry, you only admire it for a time before the blood boils for yet another trophy. cool militaria
I know where there are two of these, unfortunatly, their owners will have to have them pulled from their cold dead fingers so, since I can't get either of those two... I keep searching. This is one...
Thanks AK!
Wow... it's been a while since I've looked at this thread. There have been so many changes to my collection since these were posted and I've added 3 more chaplains helmets since then....
The painted over net configuration was done in the early part of WWII. However, the net used to make the helmet in question was not used by U.S. troops and was not available until long after the time...
Below is a message we got from Chris Armold, Author of the helmet reference books: Steel Pots and Painted Steel. This looks like a great project and he's getting the helmet collecting community...
Back to the intent of this thread, frankly, putting the U.S. Helmets into a sub-forum only buried the U.S. helmets futher into WRF oblivion. I suggest putting it into a stand alone forum instead of...
Nice clean lid. You said it came with a larger group, could you post his uniform? Also, is the rest of the group ID'd to this guy? Name?
Since it's white, it's likely Coast Guard or a Hospital Ship helmet. As for the AB, it could signify anything from a ship hull number to a rack location number for storage between uses. When it comes...
Incredible... simply incredible
Just to clarify: A D-bail is not an M-1C. The M-1C is a swivel bail helmet configured for for Airborne. These were made from mid-43 to the end of the war. The D-bail being referred to here is an M-2
There are some obvious markers pointing toward this helmet being a forgery, the least of which is the theatrical aging wash over the insignia. Your doing the right thing by not promoting it as...
I think there have been three times as many SPR helmet props on eBay than were actually used in the entire movie! Go figure
