Definately not stencil ( thera are no traces of stencil used as in first case - in first case you can easily see gaps in each of the arms of red star pointing that it was made using stencil).

Pretty bad about the chinstrap damage but overall nice M39 helmet with so called "italian style " liner and still preserved red star . IMO those are harder to find than those with M36 style liner....
