Interesting series of photos. I haven't been to the IWM since I was a small kid in the 1960's. What I remember was as others have commented, an overwhelming abundance of hardware crammed together. Eye popping stuff for a small boy. This museum makeover seems to be following the recent fashion of museum displays that "tell a story", along with overuse of perspex boxes, video and stuff hanging from steel cords. It's already dated, with much more interesting military exhibits using lifelike manikins in uniform and presented as a historic scene, such as crew working on a tank. The impression is you have stepped back in time and observing a moment in history. Peter Jackson's WW1 aviation museum is just one example of this type of museum experience, there are several in Europe.
...well, if obsessive old f@rts like us don't like it...and kids can't see "the war stuff"....who the #### are these places being re-furbed for? Perhaps I'm older than I thought....now, where's that bus timetable.....
