Forget online translators. "Chief of staff" is totally wrong.... Oberfähnrich was the highest of the officer candidate ranks. They were:

    • Fahnenjunker [equivalent to the basic-level Soldat, Schütze etc.]
    • Fahnenjunkergefreiter [equivalent to Gefreiter]
    • Fahnenjunkerunteroffizier [equivalent to Unteroffizier]
    • Fähnrich [equivalent to Unterfeldwebel]
    • Oberfähnrich [equivalent to Oberfeldwebel]

The owner acquired this Waffenrock when he was still an Oberfähnrich. He was later commissioned as a Leutnant and then promoted to Oberleutnant, the rank worn on the tunic.
Thanks again for the information! It helps a lot!

    It says:

    "Herr Oberfähnrich Christiansen
    Januar 1937
    "
Also, I'm fairly new to collecting so I'm sure this may be a dumb question, but I'm assuming there's no way to get any additional information on the owner of the Tunic? I'd assume there is not enough information to go off of with simply a name and rank but thought I'd ask anyways haha

Also, is there anyway to tell if this ribbon bar is original to the tunic or if it was later added by a collector? I know people like to add ribbon bars occasionally, but my gut tells me its original I just have no idea how to tell (if there even is a way haha) Thanks again to everyone for all the input!

Lovely, textbook tunic.Like the way the collar tabs are stitched & well seated into the collar.
