This lapel pin is listed as being from the Landespolizeigruppe ‘General Göring’, a police battalion that later became the famous 1st Fallschirm-Panzer Division 'Hermann Göring'.

I am looking for someone who can comment on it's authenticity, as it was my understanding that the Landespolizeigruppe didn't have any membership pins. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

A little more information that perhaps may be of interest to some.

The iconic Southern Cross design is not exclusively German and indeed is still in use today on certain countries flags. In relation however to what is being discussed here, the design was based on the Petersflagge of the German East Africa Company which flourished between the late nineteenth century and the first quarter of the twentieth century.

This design inspired the so called Southern Cross tradition badge and which was bestowed on selected LP (Landes Polizei) and SP (Schutz Polizei) formations to include the 1st Company (Hundertschaft) LPG (Landes Polizei Gruppe) “General Göring”. The award of the tradition badge was in recognition of the selected formations historical association towards their colonial police duties and activities.

The tradition badge was in the form of an embroidered shield which was worn on the lower left uniform sleeve.

The Southern Cross theme was naturally adopted by the RKS (Reichs Kolonial Bund), however as simply an organisation symbol during their 1936 to 1943 existence, as nothing more and certainly not deserving a prestigious tradition badge status.

For the RKS, the shape of their shield was markedly different from the earlier discussed tradition badge and there was of course the ubiquitous presence of a dominating swastika over the iconic and majestic Southern Cross.

    Regards and best wishes,

    David
