Default WW2 German Army Eastern Front White fur Long Coat/Major Patch WHAT DO YOU THINK?

So i'm thinking of buying this from someone who is selling it to me and he says that his uncle brought it back from the liberation of Buchenwald. It has some kind of insignia patch on the sleeve which suppose to be a Major's rank insignia (Chemical Warfare Troop). I would like hear you guys opinions on what y'all think about it before i considering purchasing it. I would much appreciate it and would love what you guys have to say based off these photos. Thank you and god bless!

The rank patch has nothing to do with chemical warfare.
These are late war rank insignia, mostly used for camouflage uniforms, or those without straps for shoulder boards.
I would be really surprised if this actually came from Buchenwald.

I would also be very hesitant to say it was liberated from Buchenwald.. without more information...

"Buy the item, not the story"... is a phrase that many live by in regards to these types of items especially when the mention of a Concentration Camp or other high visibility place/battle, etc. is mentioned...

Without solid provenance that it was picked up at Buchenwald it is just here say and what someone told you..

Try getting more of the story of the Soldier who reportedly brought this item back and that may reveal some more clues..

From the images supplied, it certainly looks like an original peltzmantel, but as the gentlemen above point out, forget the story when you’re buying any item (through, by all means, try to corroborate it if you can).
Without verification and evidence, the story is just that.

As for the rank insignia, it appears to be original, but I defer to more specialist collectors who may follow. When it was fitted is, of course, another matter.

In short, it looks pretty good to me.

All the best and stay safe,
    Bob
