Question Looking for opinions/info on 98/05 bayonet

    Hello again,
I recently picked up this beat up + gnarly old guy (what I assume is a model 98/05 "Butcher" bayonet) and am wondering if an expert can determine more.
There's a angel bearing the name "Stahlblume".

As far as any light restoration is concerned, should I dare clean it with some 0000-steel wool and linseed oil the grips?

I don't recommend applying anything to the grips whatsoever for fear of discoloration...

Thanks for the input! Any idea as to why the manfacturer's mark seems to be placed upside down? All online references of Stahlblume bayonets I'm finding show the angel facing upward (toward the point).

Fairly worn, I wouldn't do anything to it. Would probably have been made in 1916 or 1917. These Stahlblume 98/05 are quite interesting. You might like to search the archive, member Dok has started a few threads. And yes the mark is usually seen the other way round.

Thanks, Anderson. Did as you suggested. Somewhat helpful - glad it's been covered before. I went over to worldofbayonets and couldn't find anything on the pecuiliar stamp placement. I must have a unique find; perhaps the result of the urgent demands of 1916/17.
